Disability Election Hustings 2015
As the General Election campaign are underway, local Deaf and Disabled People questioned candidates on the issues that matter most to us.
Thanks to: Bob Neill (Conservative), John Courtneidge (Labour), Roisin Robertson (Green), Sam Webber (Liberal Democrats), Emmett Jenner (UKIP) for attending the husting on Friday 10th April at Bromley United Reformed Church organised by Local Deaf and Disabled People’s Organisations including Bromley Experts by Experience (X by X), Bromley Mencap and Bromley Sparks.
This hustings gave Deaf and Disabled people the chance to question candidates on issues that impact on their day to day lives.
Questions such as; “what do you think it would be like to be in our shoes?”
“Do you think there should be more disabled young people in politics”,
“What is your party’s position on the future of the Independent Living Fund?”
“The Work Capability Assessment is not fit for purpose. What your party scrap the WCA and replace it with an assessment based on the social model of disability?”
~ Notes from the hustings event are available on request
There were 21 additional questions that the candidates were kind enough to respond to in their own time. Please find attached the questions and the responses from the political candidates below.
